The first week with Lingumi is the most important: you'll develop a rhythm with your child, become familiar with the app, and begin learning your first words together. We often get asked, how should we get started with Lingumi? So, we put together a few tips from our community of Lingumi Families.
1. Be patient during the first few lessons ⏳
For most children, the first session with Lingumi is their first time discovering a new language, and for some, it's their first time using a tablet or smartphone to play and learn. Therefore, it takes a few lessons to create a good rhythm, and become familiar with the structure of Lingumi.
User Community Tip 💡
"The first lesson didn't go well for us... it just didn't seem to 'click' for my child. But on the third lesson, she started loving it, and repeating words with me. Now we have a lot of fun playing twice or three times a week in the evening"
If the first lesson was confusing or too difficult for your child, we recommend waiting for 4-5 lessons, and following tip 2 below. If you're still not sure at the end of 5 lessons, we'll happily refund you, and you can start again later.
If your child seems too old, or has already learned some English and found the first lessons too easy, we can move them to more advanced lessons. Find out how in this article.
2. Together is better 👨👧👧
Children who play Lingumi with someone else (for example, a sibling or their parents) have more fun, and learn more effectively. We even did a study to prove it...children who played with their parents learned their new language 70% more effectively!
Of course, we're not saying you can't leave your child alone with Lingumi. Sometimes, they're happy on their own, or you need to take care of something else (crying other child? Pan over-boiling? Left oven on? We've been there...😆)
3. Read the emails from Lingumi 💌
We don't send many emails, and we definitely won't spam you! But we do send a few important emails, usually from Toby (that's me), Dajana (you'll meet her in our community Facebook groups too), or Sebi (if you're a German speaker!). The emails give you important information about your account, your child's next steps, or reminders about if/when you'll be charged something.
4. Join the Community Groups 🇩🇪🇫🇷🇹🇼
We create Facebook groups for Lingumi families in each country to chat to each other, speak to our team, send us ideas, and ask questions or fix problems.
You can find the group for your language here:
- For German speaking families, click here
- For French speaking families, click here
- For Chinese speaking families (Taiwan/Hong Kong/Singapore), click here
- For English speakers / anything else, join the 'global' group
If you'd like to set up a group for your language, we'd love that! Just find Toby, Stefan, or Adit in the Global group (or any of the others), and send them a message on Facebook, or email us on [email protected]
